Background of the Study
Emergency nursing plays a crucial role in the management of critically ill patients, where quick, precise, and effective interventions are essential for reducing mortality rates. In Kano State, emergency nurses are often the first healthcare professionals to assess and stabilize critically ill patients, including those with conditions such as trauma, heart failure, stroke, and sepsis. The impact of emergency nursing on patient outcomes, particularly in reducing mortality rates, is an area of growing interest in health systems research.
Studies (e.g., Sulaiman et al., 2023) have shown that emergency nurses who are well-trained and able to make swift clinical decisions significantly reduce mortality in critically ill patients by providing early interventions, monitoring vital signs, and coordinating patient care. However, limited research exists on the specific contributions of emergency nurses in reducing mortality rates in Kano State’s emergency units.
